Click to displayYour old username displays on your page for 2 weeks - and other than your display name, nothing else changes. Your ID number, affixes, avatar, presentation, etc. remain the same (So if you are someone who has an easily identifyable avatar (like my Catherine's Dream ones) no issue.
And to answer the questions that NMHORSELOVER had asked:

Changing back to your old user name after a change. => Normally not possible as the old username is blocked as for anyone else.
Usernames are blocked as long as the account that is the initial "owner" exists in our systems. Meaning that unless there is a definitive deletion of the account and the storage period has elapsed, the username remains unusable. It works on the same system as when you create a new account really. So technically usernames used once become virtually impossible to get a second time
As for typos when changing username i certainly hope that in this particular instance players will be careful and check what they are typing. We won't be doing login modifications manually a.) because it's a timely operation and it bypasses the ownership rules as we don't do a check with what is stored when we do make changes. b.) the login change feature is accessible and we aren't going to double it up manually it wouldn't make sense.
So if they do manage to make a typo they will have to wait until they can change again.
We would only do that type of manipulation manually under the direst of circumstances
