It's possible - but again, who knows (I personally would love to see a return of an Older set as opposed to a new set of Wandering horses so that people can "complete" their collections [and by that I mean the box on one's profile page that shows them all])

What exactly did wandering did wandering horses do? How did you make them visit you and what did they do while visiting?

You complete the objectives for each horse, to fill up a %bar and when you reach 100% it turns up in your account, bringing a gift. The Wandering Horse itself doesn't really do much else, but its sort of like a Divine. It will stay for 5 days then leave.
The objectives for each Wandering horse had a range of difficuties. For example an easier one might be "Feed a horse an apple" and you'd get 1% each time you do this, so you'd have to give 100 apple to horses to complete it. An example of a harder objective would be "Breed a unicorn" and you'd get say 12% per unicorn foal. The Wandering Horses with harder objectives offered better gifts, and often had better skills. There is always one Wandering horse that you can only collect once you have all the others, and it offers and Divine.

When a Wandering Horse event is on - you do various actions to gain points towards unlocking the Wandering Horse.

For example - some past tasks have been:

Give apples to 100 horses
Win X amount of competitions
Groom X amount of horses
Log in for X amount of days

When you have earned enough points (usually 100) - it unlocks the Wandering Horse.

Once unlocked - the Horse comes to stay with you for Five Days and gives you a gift (what gift you get depends on the horse).

During this time - you can care for it like any other horse [So you can feed it, groom it, compete with it, etc. (However, they can not breed and act like Divines in competitions (So you can only enter 1 regular comp. a day, but unlimited Divine competitions. They also can be aged with aging points..so I suppose they are more like a Wild than a Divine).

When the Five days is up - the horse leaves, never to return to you (as such, it is best to give the horse cheap tack, as when it leaves - it takes all items given to it with it)

Me too, they are by far my favourite promotion. I get pretty obessed with them and end up sitting on Howrse for hours even though I know I can't do anything until after update, or until a horse sells to get me passes.
